Early Intervention

By definition, early intervention is referred to services provided to children birth to approximately 3 years of age who are at risk for developmental delays or have a pre-existing health condition. Early intervention is implemented to assist children to reach their developmental milestones by utilizing therapeutic services. Currently, here at Chandler Speech, we strive to provide early intervention services of occupational therapy and speech-language therapy. At Chandler Speech, we strive to have our clinicians collaborate with the families and other professionals treating the child to evaluate and implement appropriate interventions for the child to ensure the most beneficial development

What is early intervention?

Early intervention is therapeutic services for children between the ages of birth to three who are at risk for developmental delays or have a pre-existing genetic condition.

What is the process of getting my child into services for early intervention?

You can contact your pediatrician for a referral. Once Chandler Speech has received the referral, we will conduct an in-depth, in-office evaluation. The clinician will write up an extensive report and send it to your doctor. Services will begin once the report is completed.

How can a speech-language pathologist help?

A speech-language pathologist can assist a child presenting with difficulty with communication, language, and feeding/swallowing. Speech-language pathologists will collaborate with the families and other professionals treating the child to evaluate and implement appropriate interventions for the child to ensure the most beneficial development.

How can an occupational therapist help?

Pediatric occupational therapists utilize early intervention approaches to support and promote the overall development of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Practitioners provide caregivers and families with guidance to facilitate proper development of skills included in play, social participation, and activities of daily living. The application of early intervention is used to maximize the potential skill growth through life.
